The Azamara Quest on Friday, March 30, 2012 evening, was on its way to Sandakan in Malaysia from Manila in the Philippines when it was temporarily disabled by the fire in its engine room. It was drifting in the southern part of the Philippine waters (139km south-west of the Philippines’ Tubbataha Reef), in between Sulu in the Philippines and Borneo.

Philippine authorities did not receive the distress call of the ship’s crew. However, authorities were informed about the incident by a ferry company based in Manila.

On Saturday morning, the electricity has been restored.

Robinson’s Galleria March 2012 Robbery

At least two (2) robbers killed one (1) security guard and wounded six (6) other people during a morning robbery of the money to be delivered to a money changer inside Robinsons Galleria shopping mall in Ortigas Center, March 29. 2012.

Before 10AM two (2) roving tellers of the Security Bank along with their two (2) armed security guard escorts delivered money to the Sanry’s Money Changer Shop. First, they delivered PhP2 million to the money changer branch at the side of the mall along EDSA. After the money they delivered was received, they then proceeded to their next delivery target which was the money changer’s branch at the mall’s side along Ortigas Avenue.

They were passing through (inside) the mall at the first level when three (3) robbers fired at them. The four (4) Security Bank employees were hit.

When robbers got hold of the cash (more or less 2 million), they immediately went out of the mall.

Outside, there were three (3) men each with motorcycle. One (1) of them was holding two (2) hand grenades, while the other two (2) served as the lookout.

As the three (3) robbers were exiting the mall, the man who was holding the grenades lobbed the grenades. One (1) of the grenades exploded hurting three (3) bystanders.

The six (6) men fled riding their motorcycles.

Fatalities

Rodrigo Villa, one of the security guards escorting the Security Bank roving tellers was declared dead at the Medical City (hostpital) in Pasig City.

Wounded

The following people are wounded during the robbery incident in the Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas Center:

  1. Roderick Reloso (another security guard escorting the roving tellers). He is in critical condition.
  2. Vincent Mangatura (Security Bank Roving Teller)
  3. Lea del Mundo (Security Bank Roving Teller)
  4. Joshua Toniza (Bystander)
  5. Jeremy Rabe (Bystander)
  6. Paul Sarmiento (Bystander)

Robbers Entrance to the Mall

It was noted that the robbers were already inside the mall before they robbed the Security Bank roving tellers.

The authorities are still investigating the incident. Video recorded by the CCTV cameras installed near the scene for possible security lapses, including how the robbers entered the mall.

However, the mall spokesperson said that the robbers entered the mall forcibly.

Naruto Manga Chapter 580

Kabuto in this chapter of Naruto Manga, chapter 580 – Brotherly time, has finally transformed into his hermit white snake mode. I guess, it’s his highest level of transformation. He immediately transformed into this level considering that his opponents, the Uchiha brothers, are S-Level wanted criminal like him and have their own highest level of Sosanoo jutsu.

Senpou Hakugeki No Jutsu is Kabuto’s first technique at his hermit mode against the Uchiha brothers. The targets have escaped from this.

Kabuto then uses his light, sound and vibration technique against them. He through his snake technique blocks the light to reach the eyes of the people within the affected area making them blind. The high frequency sound created by his snake technique makes the people within the affected area deaf. And the vibrations make the people immovable. So, only Kabuto can move during this time because at hermit mode he has the ability to make his body liquid that can resist from the effect of the air vibration.

Kabuto attacks the immovable Itachi. His aim is to reprogram the brain of Itachi to control him again and make him his pawn against Sasuke. However, Itachi successfully dodges the attack.

So, Kabuto tries to disturb Sasuke emotionally by talking about Itachi as a liar hoping that he can use Sasuke’s emotion to drive him against his brother.

To counter Kabuto’s emotional attack to Sasuke, Itachi reminds Sasuke of their boar hunting session when they were still young. And while Sasuke thinks of it, he also attacks Kabuto the same way how he attacked the pig, but this time he uses his Sosanoo.

Kabuto is not hit by the attack but he realized that the bond of the two siblings is still intact and strong.

So, in the next chapter of Naruto Manga, chapter 281, we will be expecting the simultaneous attack of the siblings against Kabuto.

Sun Xu

Sun Xu (25), a Chinese national, is an undergraduate student of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the first of its student commanded to do community service just to graduate.

He was fined S$3,000 and ordered by the university to perform community service for 3 months after the 2 weeks inquiry made by university officials about the comments of Sun Xu calling Singaporeans “dogs”. His comments which were posted at the Chinese social networking site, Ren Ren, last month and caused public outcry, were considered ‘improper, insensitive and disrespectful to the community’ and had ‘stirred up considerable unease’.

Sun Xu’s Comments

He posted in Ren Ren site the message saying, “there are more dogs than human in Singapore.” It went viral.

After deleting the comments, he then asked apology.

In a social networking site, he posted this:  “My last month has been filled with great regrets and remorse. My comments were disrespectful and inappropriate, and I am very sorry for making those comments.”

Sun Xu’s Scholarship

Sun Xu is in his final year of an engineering course, mechanical engineering, at the university. He holds the scholarship from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the NUS is the administrator of the scholarship.

Sun Xu’s undergraduate scholarship was terminated due to his derogatory comments. And he is required to pay back S$8,200 disbursed through the scholarship for him for this semester.

Manny Pacquiao versus Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) March 2012 Fight

Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to fight in a boxing match with Timothy Bradley on June this year. He is now currently promoting the fight with his team and of Bradley. But before the scheduled fight happens, BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) inserted itself as the one to fight first against the Pacman but not in the boxing ring but in the legal court.

BIR Charged Manny Pacquiao

The BIR is as fast as Juan Manuel Marquez. It is using the Marquez tricks like fighting closer with Pacman while stepping his right foot to stop him from skipping the counter punches. Before Manny could charge the BIR, the BIR charged him first.

On March 1, 2012, the BIR filed charges against Manny Pacquiao at the office of the Prosecutor in Koronadal City in relation to the ongoing investigation into the Pacman’s tax payments in 2010 based on the income tax returns he filed. The charge is neither tax evasion nor tax fraud but just contempt for alleged failure or refusal to submit more than 62 documents required by the BIR. If he will be found guilty of it, the Sarangani Congressman will be facing similar fate of that of Floyd Mayweather Jr., an imprisonment of up to 2 years.

Manny Pacquiao’s Counter Jabs

Manny Pacquiao is hit severely by the straight punches and the upper cuts of the BIR. He is hurt but he is still firm and still throwing counter jabs several times. He already lost 3 big US endorsement resulted by the BIR moves against him which drawing a picture of a Manny Pacquiao as a tax evader Pacman.

Manny Pacquiao on his press said that he was harassed by the BIR in several occasions:

  1. He mentioned that a certain letter, maybe from the BIR, was sent to him when he was still in Vegas for a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. But it was not handed to him or to his lawyer but to a certain Jocelyn Nobria in General Santos City, taking note of the congressman’s current address which is Sarangani Province.
  2. He is one of the tax payers who paid huge to the BIR, yet the BIR does not give him a little respect by filing a criminal case against him.
  3. He complied with the summons of the BIR and sent his accountant to the BIR through the BIR’s concern office. But the accountant and the chief of the concern BIR office failed to meet because the said BIR officer was absent. It was not clear if the BIR officials was absent in his office because of official tasks outside his office or was absent because of personal reasons.

Manny Pacquiao did not file yet charges against the BIR officials but he said his lawyers are planning to file a suit in relation to  Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act), which the BIR allegedly violated.

Manny Pacquiao vesus BIR fight result

We are currently watching the early rounds of the fight between Manny Pacquiao and the BIR. We couldn’t tell yet who will win. I just don’t know if Manny can still box and win the fight considering that he is undergoing a Bible training and seminar in relation to his acceptance of a responsibility in the Roman Catholic Church as an Ambassador.

But we will follow the fight up to the final round.

i.ph is Closing

I was informed by the i.ph support that i.ph will be closed. They sent me a letter since I am one of the i.ph users who created a blog through its i.ph service, which says:

Dear i.ph blogger,

All good things must come to an end.

It’s been a fun ride, but we will be closing the i.ph blogging service on May 21, 2012. Maintaining it as a free service has become unsustainable and we are unable to devote the resources neccessary to keep it going.

You have 2 months to transfer your content to another blog, because on May 21 all i.ph blogs and files will be deleted from our servers. Within the next couple of weeks, we will provide you with a way of transferring your blog posts easily. In the meantime, we will lock the blogs so that no additional content can be put on them. This will make things easier for you when you move your posts out.

If you would like to keep using your ***.i.ph domain even after the i.ph blogging service has shut down, it will be available as a low-cost personal domain for individual, non-commercial use.

The i.ph personal domain will be fully-functional and will work just like any other. You can use it for your own website and as an email address. It will even come with free mailforwarding so you can use it as an address and still receive mail through your Gmail or Yahoo Mail account. The only restriction is that it cannot be used by companies/organizations or for selling goods, products and services.

i.ph domains will be priced at $14.00 for a 2-year registration.

To reserve your ****.i.ph domain, click on the link below. The $14.00 reservation fee will be applied to the first 2 years registration once the domain goes live.

You only have until April 9 to click the link, reserve your domain and ensure that you have first chance to keep it. Otherwise, it will become available for registration by the public after May 21. We will keep you updated on the status of the launch as the date approaches.

We thank you for your continued support of the i.ph blogging service through the years.

If you have any questions, please email our Helpdesk at [email protected]

Best regards,

i.ph Support

Supreme Court on Labor Case, FASAP versus PAL

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, reopened the labor case between the Flight Attendants and Stewards of the Philippines (FASAP) and the Philippine Airlines (PAL), while denying the motion for consideration filed by the FASAP on October 17, 2011 to reconsider its order on Sept. 7, 2011 to recall an earlier decision that ordered PAL to pay P3 billion to FASAP members retrenched by the airline firm.

Background

On June 15, 1998, PAL announced that the laying off of 5,000 employees including the 1,400 members of the FASAP. The PAL did it to avoid bankruptcy.

FASAP versus PAL at the NLRC

On July 2000, FASAP filed a case against PAL at the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC). The NLRC ordered PAL to reinstate the attendants with full back wages.

The PAL appealed and the decision was reversed on May 2004.

FASAP versus PAL at the Court of Appeal

The FASAP step up their labor case against PAL at the Court of Appeal but they lost.

FASAP versus PAL at the Supreme Court

FASAP went to the Supreme Court and filed a labor case against PAL. On July 22, 2008, the Supreme Court decided and ordered PAL to reinstate the 1,400 members of the FASAP with full back wages and benefits.

PAL filed a motion for reconsideration. On October 2009, the Supreme Court denied the motion of the PAL.

PAL filed their second motion for reconsideration of the July 2008 decision. And on September 7, 2011, the Supreme Court’s Second Division released a ruling upholding its previous ruling and decided not to entertain another motion for reconsideration.

However, on October 17, 2011, the Supreme Court ordered the recalling of the ruling in favor to the PAL.

The FASAP filed immediately a motion for reconsideration arguing that Supreme Court’s Second Division issued final decision in favor of the FASAP and therefore it could not be recalled.

On Wednesday, with the 7-2 vote, the Supreme Court denied the motion for reconsideration filed by the FASAP.

Case, Open Again

The Supreme Court in its March 21, 2012 ruling opened the case again, and it should be raffled to either Associate Justices Lucas Bersamin or Diosdado Peralta.

Noynoying – SELaplana

Noynoying is a term coined by Filipino activists to refer Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III as a do-nothing leader. The simplest meaning of the term is, “a lazy and useless President.”

The word “Noynoying” is derived from the nickname of the President which is “Noynoy”. In the Filipino sense, the term “Noynoying” would mean “doing something that Noynoy used to be doing.”

Background of Noynoying

Prior to the introduction of the Noynoying, Filipino protesters usually do a protest march or a protest rally.

Last week, protesters introduced Noynoying as a form of protest against the increase of the oil price and the President’s inaction against it. They portrayed the actions or things done allegedly by PNoy instead of performing his job as President of the Philippines, like:

  • Playing video games.
  • Sitting and staring into nothing.
  • Laughing with celebrities.

Malacañang’s Answer

Malacañang downplayed Noynoying, thinking that Noynoying will soon fade.

However they tried to answer it by releasing photos of the President who is busy working. One of the photos showed PNoy sitting on his desk reading documents. In another one, PNoy was seen scolding someone over the uncollected garbage.
