Question: How to become Christ’s Sheep?
Answer: To become Christ’s sheep, one should hear Christ’s voice and will follow Him. This is what is written in John 10:27:
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (Good News Translation)
Reflection on how to become Christ’s Sheep
After reading what Christ has said about his sheep, I was then thinking about what my friends are saying that faith in Christ is enough to gain salvation on the day of judgment.
Here, it is clear that one should hear Christ voice which is equivalent to having faith in Christ but it doesn’t end here. One should also follow Christ.
So, it is not enough to have faith in Christ for us to be saved. We should follow what Christ has been telling us too. These two things make us his true sheep.
Now, If we are the sheep, and who is Christ? I am sure that you’ll tell me that Christ is the shepherd of his sheep. But besides of being a shepherd what is Christ to his sheep? Consider this verse which says:
So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. (John 10:7, Revised Standard Version)
According to Christ, He is the door of the sheep. Now, if Christ is the door of the sheep, what should the sheep of Christ do into that door? This is what Christ has said:
“I am the door; anyone who comes into the fold through me will be safe.” (John 10:9, Revised English Bible)
According to Christ, those who will enter into the fold through him will be saved. So, it actually served as an invitation of Christ to anyone who wants to be saved. And if you really want to be saved, then you need to enter into the fold through Christ, the door.
But what is the fold or the flock that you should enter into for you to be saved? In Acts 20:28, this is what we will find:
Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood. (Lamsa Translation)
The fold or flock, in other words, is the Church of Christ which Christ purchased with his own blood.
Therefore, the true sheep of Christ are found inside the Church of Christ. The Church of Christ is the flock of the sheep of Christ.
