At least two (2) robbers killed one (1) security guard and wounded six (6) other people during a morning robbery of the money to be delivered to a money changer inside Robinsons Galleria shopping mall in Ortigas Center, March 29. 2012.
Before 10AM two (2) roving tellers of the Security Bank along with their two (2) armed security guard escorts delivered money to the Sanry’s Money Changer Shop. First, they delivered PhP2 million to the money changer branch at the side of the mall along EDSA. After the money they delivered was received, they then proceeded to their next delivery target which was the money changer’s branch at the mall’s side along Ortigas Avenue.
They were passing through (inside) the mall at the first level when three (3) robbers fired at them. The four (4) Security Bank employees were hit.
When robbers got hold of the cash (more or less 2 million), they immediately went out of the mall.
Outside, there were three (3) men each with motorcycle. One (1) of them was holding two (2) hand grenades, while the other two (2) served as the lookout.
As the three (3) robbers were exiting the mall, the man who was holding the grenades lobbed the grenades. One (1) of the grenades exploded hurting three (3) bystanders.
The six (6) men fled riding their motorcycles.
Rodrigo Villa, one of the security guards escorting the Security Bank roving tellers was declared dead at the Medical City (hostpital) in Pasig City.
The following people are wounded during the robbery incident in the Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas Center:
- Roderick Reloso (another security guard escorting the roving tellers). He is in critical condition.

Robbers Entrance to the Mall
It was noted that the robbers were already inside the mall before they robbed the Security Bank roving tellers.
The authorities are still investigating the incident. Video recorded by the CCTV cameras installed near the scene for possible security lapses, including how the robbers entered the mall.
However, the mall spokesperson said that the robbers entered the mall forcibly.
