Janine Mari Tugonon was the Candidate Number 18 during the Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) pageant and was crowned “Miss Philippines – Universe 2012” on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Education
Janine graduated Cum Laude with a degree in BS Pharmacy.
PRC Licensure Examination
Janine passed the Licensure Examination for Pharmacists as one of the top passers.
University of Sto. Tomas’ Beauty Pageants
Janine Mari Tugonon won titles from the beauty pageants held at her school such as:
- Miss Pharmacy in 2009
- Miss Thomasian Personality in 2010
Binibining Pilipinas Pageants
In 2011, Janine Mari Tugonon participated in the Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) pageant and placed First Runner Up. Her roommate, Shamsey Supsup, won the Miss Philippines – Universe 2011 title.
As the representative of Bataan, Janine joined this year’s (2012) Binibing Pilipinas pageant again which was held at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on April 15, 2012 competed with other 29 candidates and finally won the title Miss Philippines – Universe 2012 title.
Her prize for winning the crown includes:

She will be representing Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant on December this year.

Janine Mari Tugonon was asked by judge Jose Manuel Romualdez the question: “Many women nowadays forego a happy family life for a successful career. How do you feel about this?”
Janine Tugonon replied: “I believe that women have the right to choose between what they want. But for me, you’ll have to go for what God has called you to do, whatever it is, between the two. You must do what your purpose is in this world. Just have a child-like faith and mature obedience, and everything will go smooth.”
