May 15, 2012 Earthquake Update


Philippine Earthquake

At about 4PM (Philippine local time) today, May 15, 2012, Hinunangan in Southern Leyte was jolted by an earthquake. Based on the data from PhilVolcs-DOST, the 3.8 earthquake happened at 3:09PM with the center at 007 km N 26° W of  Saint Bernard (Southern Leyte) with the depth of 5 kilometers. In the morning of the same day, a 1.8 magnitude earthquake hit Negros with the center at 020 km N 26° W of  Bais City (Negros Oriental).

Earthquake in Chile

6.4 magnitude (Based on Chilean University data) earthquake far-northern Chile and the Peruvian city of Tacna at 6AM (EDT – Chile local time) May 14, 2012, with its epicenter at 66 miles (107 kilometers) northeast of the city of Arica 98 kilometers (61 miles) underground.

Earthquake in Indian Ocean

5.3 magnitude earthquake hit the north Indian Ocean at 1:19PM (local time), May 15, 2012. The epicentre was located at 636km southwest of Great Nicobar Island, India, and 1,192km southwest of Langkawi, Kedah.

Earthquake in Christchurch

4.4 magnitude earthquake hit Christchurch at 1:27PM local time May 15, 2012.
