A passenger plane of Dana Airlines of Nigeria crashed in a tin-roofed residential building killing all its passengers of atleast 150 people on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
About the Ill-Fated Aircraft
The ill-fated aircraft was the MC Donnell Douglas MD 83 operated by the Dana Airlines of Nigeria. Dana Air acquired the aircraft from a US-based company, Alaska Airlines on February 17, 2009.
The Alaska Airlines bought the aircraft on Alaska Airline in November 13, 1990.
The aircraft was built in 1983, but its first flight was made on December 17, 1984.
The June 2012 Crash
The plane (Dana Airline’s flight 0992) took off at around 3:43PM, pilots declared an emergency received by the Lagos Control Tower. A minute later, the aircraft disappeared from the air traffic control radar. It was found out that the Dana Airlines flight 0992 crashed in a residential building in Iju-Ishaga area of Agege in Lagos State.
According to authorities, there are 153 people on board the plane died including the people from the National Universities Commission whose names are:
- Mr Mamud Dokawa,
- Architect Chinwe Obi,
- Mrs Shuaibu
- Professor Nwoleri,
No one from those on-board the plane survived, and it is not yet clear if there people coming from the ground died from the crash.
