At least 23 people were killed and more than a hundred others were injured when a fuel tanker crashed on a flyover in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and exploded, collapsing an industrial building, particularly, Zahid Tractor company’s showroom and warehouse, and destroying nearby cars on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at about 7AM.
Among those killed was Florentino Santiago, an OFW. Injured people, 10 of which are Filipinos, were brought to National Guard Hospital, the Habib Hospital, the Jazira Clinic and Shumaisi.
According to reports, the truck was taking the flyover or bridge on a junction in Khurays Road when the driver was surprised by the road accident losing control of his truck that eventually crashed on the railings of the bridge. As the fuel it transported leaked and spread out, explosion immediately followed.
The mentioned warehouse which has several storeys has been collapsed by the explosion. Most of the Filipino victims are working inside the compound.
