Whenever I meet someone who would discuss with me about Trinity, I immediately remember the time when I asked Rev. John Meaney who taught us Religion subject when I was in third year at St. Augustine High School, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.

I asked him:

Why is it that you’re teaching us what Trinity is, but then you’ll say that Trinity couldn’t be explained and understood by anyone even by the Pope? How could you teach us that thing which you didn’t even understand?

So, much for that, the only reason why they’re always saying that Trinity couldn’t be explained and understand, is because Trinity doctrine is not written on the Bible.

Okay, I will give you a challenge… Tell me what verse in the Bible that the term “Trinity” is mentioned or the statement “Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one God”.

The first one to comment here with the valid Bible verse will get $25 or its equivalent in Philippine Peso.

The Eraserheads or Eraserheads or E-Heads, was a popular Pinoy rock band in the Philippines during the alternative rock explosion of the early 1990s.

During my early days on earth, I never complained on the rituals and ceremonies that we’d done, because I really believed that those were the teachings of the Apostles and of Christ.

But a Reverend O’Leary revealed something about these rites and ceremonies. Did you know the truth about the Catholic Rites and Ceremonies that we’re doing?

On his book, “The Externals of the Catholic Church” he revealed that Catholic rites and ceremonies are reproduction of Pagan creeds:

“It is interesting to note how often our Church has availed herself of practices which were in common use among pagans, and which owed their origin to their appropriateness for expressing something spiritual by material means… and she has often found that it was well to take what was praiseworthy in other forms of worship and adapt it to her own purposes, for the sanctification of her children. Thus it is true, in a certain sense, that some Catholic rites and ceremonies are reproduction of those pagan creeds but they are taking of was best from paganism, …” (p.226)

And it was even clarified by Carl Adam on his book, “The Spirit of Catholism” on page 166:

“She does not hesitate even to take over pagan rituals and pagan symbols, whenever such things can be Christianized and reformed.”

We all know that majority of the Christians today believe on the deity of Jesus Christ, and they are categorized into two: The Trinitarian or those who believe on the Trinity; and those who believe on the Oneness of God.

But, did you know that the Apostolic Fathers didn’t believe on the deity of Christ (that Christ is God)?

- Except Ignatius, the Apostolic Fathers believe that Christ is the divine revealer of the knowledge of the true God:

“Common Christianity … Profoundly loyal to Christ, it conceived of Him primarily as the divine revealer of the knowledge of the true God, and the proclaimer of a ‘new law’ of simple, lofty, and strenuous morality. This is the attitude of the so-called ‘Apostolic Fathers’, with the exception of Ignatius …” (Williston Walker, A History of the Christian Church, New York: Charles Scribner’s Son, 1970, Third Edition, p 37)

- There was no belief on Trinity up to the end of the period of the Apostolic Fathers:

“… there is the Old Roman or the so-called Apostles’ Creed (ca. 100) which follows the language of Matthew and Luke and makes no mention of the preexistent Christ. This creed reads: ‘I believe in God … and in Christ Jesus, His only Son… who was born of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary.’ According to this creed, then, before the birth of Jesus there were only God and the Holy Spirit, and ‘Jesus,’ as it says, ‘was born of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary. ‘No mention is made of a preexistent Christ…

“And so by the end of the periods of the Apostolic Fathers there was no belief in a preexistent Trinity.” (Harry Austryn Wolfson, The Philosophy of the church Fathers, Massachusetts: Harvard University Press, 1964. vol 1, Second Edition, pp 190-191)

- Even the Didache contains no formal profession of faith in the divinity of Jesus Christ:

“… even the Didache, or ‘Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, ‘ the oldest literary monument of Christian antiquity outside of the New Testament canon … contains no formal profession of faith in the divinity of Jesus Christ.” (Joseph Pohle, The Divine Trinity, A Dogmatic Treatise, USA: B Herder Book Co, 1950, p 150)

I was searching information in the Municipal Library of Malitbog (Southern Leyte) but I didn’t found anything about it. But do you know what information I found during my researches?

Did you know that the Roman Catholic Church in Benguet adopted an Igorot pagan practice? Here’s what was written on the Manila Daily Bulletin, dated August 13, 1968:

“LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, August 12 (PNS). An experiment on the incorporation of some sound Igorot pagan practices into the Catholic church’s religious ceremonies was successfully conducted by the Sabangan parish church under Rev. Fr. Wilfredo Daels in Mountain Province recently.

“This was the blending of the ‘tengao,’ an Igorot pagan harvest festival, and the traditional Catholic thanksgiving rites into one united religious observance.

“The pagan festival of dances was held immediately after the mass.

“With the success of the first combined pagan-Catholic church ‘tengao,’ the Sabangan folk will no longer have divided thanksgiving celebration.”
