Several users asked me these questions regarding television sets:

What is LCD Tv?

What is LED TV?

What is Plasma TV?

What is the difference between LCD and LED and Plasma tv?

Which is better, the LCD TV, LED TV or Plasma TV?

Below is my answers to these questions to best of my knowledge.

What is LCD TV?

LCD TV is a television sets that uses the LCD or liquid crystal display technology in generating images on the screen. It is the first kind of the television sets that uses the traditional LCD technology which involves the use of the CCFL.

CCFL stands for Cold Cathode Fluorescent lamp. It is used as backlight in the LCD television which helps the LCD generate images.

What is LED TV?

LED TV is basically an LCD tv. However, the backlight used by this kind of LCD tv is not the traditional CCFL but the LED or light emitting diode.

The use of the LED as backlight for the LCD television is the solution made by the LCD TV manufacturer to make the images generated by LCD televisions more crispier, more sharper, and eliminates the blurring of images when the image is in motion.

What is Plasma TV?

A Plasma TV or oftentime called PDP (Plasma Display Panel) TV is another kind of television sets which uses the plasma technology. The pixels of this kind of tv is a plasma cells. These plasma cells are actually tiny fluorescent lamps.

What is the difference between LCD tv, LED tv, and Plasma tv?

These three kinds of television sets are or flat TV. You should not be confused with each other.

I already explained what are these kinds of televisions. These three television sets differ from each other through the technology each uses in generating images.

LCD and LED television sets are both LCD tvs but they differ in the use of the backlight. The backlight used by the LCD tv is just the CCFL while the backlight of the LED tv is LED or light emitting diode.

While Plasma uses fluorescent lamp but the use of it differs from how LCD use it. In LCD tv, fluorescent lamp is used as backlight for the LCD, while the fluorescent lamp in Plasma TV is in tiny size in which one fluorescent lamp is actually one pixel of the Plasma television set. In other words, in a Plasma tv, a display of it is composed of thousands of tiny fluorescent lamps while in LCD tv, there are only two or one large fluorescent lamp which is used to light the LCD.

Plasma TV is more expensive than the LED tv. LED tv is also more expensive than the LCD Tv.

From the price itself, we can already tell which among these three kind of television sets has better display. Plasma TV has the best display which almost perfect. LED TV is just an upgrade from the ordinary LCD tv. So, LED TV has better display compared to the ordinary LCD.

However, if you are eyeing for a 37 inch or below, it would be better to get the LCD TV. Although you can afford to spend more for the LED tv but spending more for just a 37 inch or below size of television is a waste of money. You better get the larger than 37 inch television if you want to spend a lot of money but it should be a LED TV or Plasma.

It’s your choice of course what to buy. LED TV is already good but Plasma TV is much better than LED TV. Decide what to get by considering instead your budget. If you can afford for the Plasma TV then why not get it. However, if not, then just get the LED TV.

Description:

Toshiba’s Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen’s response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor.

The 32HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen.

For people looking to step up to full 1080p resolution in a 46-inch flat-panel LCD, Samsung’s 2007 model LNT4665F is a good choice. Besides offering full 1080p resolution the LNT4665F also features a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for rich blacks and subltle tecture display, an 8ms response time panel for smooth motion, hidden side speakers, an NTSC tuner, and 3 HDMI ports.

The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass through hidden side speakers. TruSurround XT audio adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.

Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.

TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.

The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
