No! Actually, it’s not Live TV but Live Video. This is what everybody is talking about since February 6, 2008. On the next day, I learned from the news that Yahoo! launched already their Yahoo! Live.

Yahoo! Live Blog has this idea about the Yahoo! Live:

We’re excited to share with you Yahoo! Live, a new experiment in live video from the Advanced Products team at Yahoo!. Y! Live was dreamed up as a way to make it possible for anyone to create their own live video experience. Broadcast the concert you’re at. Webcast your own live DJ set. Lifecast. Build your own live video speed dating application. We’ve created a website and an API that lets you do all these things and many more.

The only interesting thing I found as I tried the Yahoo! Live is that Yahoo! Live is not living. Yahoo! Live is dead due to the huge traffic.

For now, I can’t tell how can I use this new service of Yahoo! here in my blog. Maybe, I can broadcast the things I did here in my home, or whatever. Let’s just wait for the time the Yahoo! Live will really be alive not dead.

I receive an email from customerdata_service@yahoo.com asking me to verify my email account or else it will be terminated.

Dear Account User,

This Email is from Yahoo! Customer Care and we are sending it to every Yahoo! Email User Accounts Owner for safety. we are having congestions due to the anonymous registration of Yahoo! accounts so we are shutting down some Yahoo! accounts and your account was among those to be deleted.We are sending you this email to so that you can verify and let us know if you still want to use this account. If you are still interested please confirm your account by filling the space below. Your User name,Password,Date Of Birth (DOB) and your Country information would be needed to verify your account.

Due to the congestion in all Yahoo! users and removal of all unused Yahoo! Accounts, Yahoo! would be shutting down all unused Accounts, You will have to confirm your E-mail by filling out your Login Information below after clicking the reply button, or your account will be suspended within 24 hours for security reasons.

* User name: …………………………

* Password: …………………………..

* Date of Birth: ……………………….

* Country Or Territory: …………….

After following the instructions in the sheet, your account will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. Thanks for your attention to this request. We apologize for any inconveniences.

Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his/her account after two weeks of receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently.

Of course it looks like legitimate email especially if the email user who receive this email will consider the email address where this email is coming from. If you’ll read the last part of it, it says, “Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his/her account after two weeks of receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently” it seems that the email users will get nervous and will immediately reply it by sending their personal information.

Now, if you already had replied this, then you’ll definitely loss your precious email account.

Why?

It’s because, it is another email scam. Just look at the information they’re asking you: “username, password, date of birth and teritory.” If you freely give your username and password, then scammers can easily access your account and own them.

Now what will happen next?

First, scammers will scan the entire content of your email to find ways on how to utilize them. They can use this in black-mailing you… for extortion… to access your personal financial accounts… and a lot of things. Now, what if your email is the one used in your paypal account. Once they have your email account, then your paypal will be next.

For your information, my Pasugo-Online.NET website was hacked in 2004 because the hackers successfully hacked my email account (selaplana@yahoo.com) which is connected to that website. And not only that, I also lost my personal website which I started building since 1999 (geocities.com/selaplana).

When I came to know Yahoo!, Google was already powering its search engine. That was on the year 1999 if I am not mistaken. Yahoo! was very much popular at that time while I never heard someone talking about Google.

But then time came that the two partners separated from each other and became the great rivals. Yahoo! had his own search engines while the old search engine of Google was launched as independent to any sites.

The popularity of Google has come to its peak that it surpassed the declining popularity of Yahoo!, until, I heard the news that Yahoo!’s CEO Terry Semmel walked away and replaced by Yahoo!’s co-founder, Jerry Young.

The taking-over of Jerry Young as the new CEO of Yahoo! leads me to think that Yahoo! is now on desperate period. The former CEO failed to push his company back to its former success that even Microsoft became ahead of it. And that the only solution to save Yahoo!’s reputation is through the brilliant hands of its co-founder.

Now, with the co-founder as CEO, Yahoo! is now again considering an option that its number 1 competitor, Google, will be with them to work again as partners.

Just like what Techdirt pointed, this process might hurt their prides but it seems the right step to do to help Yahoo!’s business back to life.

It was reported by New York Post that Microsoft is now on talk to acquire Yahoo! for $50 Billion.

While Microsoft and Yahoo! have held informal deal talks over the years, sources say the latest approach signals an urgency on Microsoft’s part that has up until now been lacking.

The new approach follows an offer Microsoft made to acquire Yahoo! a few months ago, sources said. But Yahoo! spurned the advances of the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant. Wall Street sources put a roughly $50 billion price tag on Yahoo!.

Many critics are saying that this is a desperate move of Microsoft after it’s failure to acquire DoubleClick which Om considered it as a bad idea.

But just wondering if Microsoft-Yahoo! (Microhoo!) merger really is the right one to compete against Google… If so, then I was right to think that Yahoo! and Microsoft is too far compared to Google. And if it really happens, then it’s a clear point that Yahoo! is not really the competitor of Google but Microsoft. In other way, it also tells us that Microsoft admits its failure in the internet (search, ads and other business).

However, John Chow got the point why Microsoft is right to buy Yahoo!.

Yahoo! has been performing poorly, it’s management has been shaken up and the share price has been under performing. Microsoft needs to step its game if it wants to compete against Google on the search engine front.

TechDirt’s point might be true also:

But even if the companies do a deal, it’s hard to see how that would solve either of their problems, since it ultimately comes down to products and consumer value, which is at the core of Google’s success.

So, all of this is all about competing against Google. I am wondering what will be the reaction of Google about this.

The title of this post seems too long. It might not be good, but it’s better to be like that so that on the title itself you will already know what’s the content of this post is.

Did You Know That You Can Now Use the Yahoo! Messenger Anywhere Without Downloading The Installer?

Ohh yes! Yodel has just announced it today. Yaho! Messenger users can now use the Yahoo! Messenger anywhere as long as you have the internet connection, without downloading the annoying installer of it.

What you need to do is just open the browser and visit this page (http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/).

However, I want you to take note that if your browser displayed that page as shown above, it means that the latest version of the Flash Player of your browser is not yet installed nor activated. Once the Flash Player has been activated, then when accessing the http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ you will immediately see the page as shown below:

Just sign-in and you can now chat your friends just like what you did when using the desktop version of it.

Now, what makes this Web version of Yahoo! Messenger good is that it is built with some sophesticated features. Yes! Just try it and you’ll see how interesting is it.

Yodel also announced that it is supported by all browsers, whether Firefox, Safari, IE, and whatever.

Haven’t you tried it already? Then tell us what you experienced.

Yahoo! Search through Priyank Garg announced the introduction of the new tag for websites which is the “Robots-Nocontent” tag. This tag will tell Yahoo! crawler to focus on the main content of the a page which will help the Yahoo! Search in targeting the right pages of a site in specific search queries.

So, those parts which are not really related to the main content of the site like, the menu, advertisements, links and other stuffs, will be marked using the “Robots-Nocontent” tag. Those parts tagged with it are not really useful to Yahoo! Search but just for the site visitors and will not be considered as information for finding the page or for the abstract in the search result.

So, how to apply the tag into the pages of our sites?

Garg gave us some examples:

<div class=”robots-nocontent”> This is the navigational menu of the site and is common on all pages. It contains many terms and keywords not related to this site</div>

<span class=”robots-nocontent”> This is the site header that is present on all pages of the site and is not related to any particular page</span>

<p class=”robots-nocontent”> This is a boilerplate legal disclaimer required on each page of the site</p>

<div class=”robots-nocontent”> This is a section where ads are displayed on the page. Words that show up in ads may be entirely unrelated to the page contents</div>

What do you think about it?

They’re also talking here, here, here, here, here, here

When Google acquired DoubleClick, everybody shouted and accused Google that what Google did was a monopolistic one. However, Yahoo! understand the game that Google play, so yesterday, it was reported by the NYtimes that Yahoo! paid $680 million of the remaining 80% of the Right Media.

Why acquire only 80% of the company?

It’s because 20% of it was already acquired by Yahoo! last October.

Why should Yahoo! acquire this company?

“The acquisition, to us, is a key step toward executing our long-term vision to build the leading advertising and publisher ecosystem both on and off the Yahoo network,” Terry S. Semel, Yahoo’s chief executive, said in an interview. The deal is to be announced today and is expected to close in three months. (NYTimes)

What’s with the Right Media, why Yahoo! is very much interested with it?

Right Media, a four-year-old company, runs an exchange in which advertisers and publishers buy and sell online ad placements in real time through an auction system. (NYtimes)

Right Media connects the various online ad players (advertisers, publishers, ad networks) in an open and efficient way. Its marketplace provides a world where non-guaranteed inventory is bought and sold without barriers — an entirely free flow of information. (Yodel)

What does this acquisition mean?

It’s another escalation of the war for online advertising, particularly between Yahoo! and Google, … (Rob Hof)

The acquisition is a right move towards competing with Google advertising campaign which recently acquired Double Click (Arnold Zafra)

This is a defensive move that gets Yahoo in the exchange race and they want to be in it if Google is serious about building one. (Clickety Clack)

What does this mean for the Direct Media Exchange product?

We can’t start working with the team at Yahoo until the SEC approves everything, but we’ll be working on making Direct Media Exchange better in the near term as well as working with Yahoo to build new and improved publisher solutions. (Conversion Rater)

What can Right Media do to Yahoo! with this acquisition?

This acquisition will help Yahoo! build on its leadership in online advertising. We’ve been moving aggressively over a number of months to enhance our leading ad tools and capabilities, through initiatives like Panama and major partnerships like those with eBay and a consortium of more than 260 newspapers. Right Media builds on those efforts by helping us not only realize more value from our inventory, but also continue to transform how advertisers and publishers connect to their audiences. (Yodel)

And my question now is: What should Microsoft and At&T do to really compete with Yahoo! and Google? Will they remain hiding behind their petition against Google’s acquisition of DoubleClick?

Yahoo! announced yesterday that they’re partnering with PayPal and integrating the PayPal service with the Yahoo! search results.

For these reasons, today I’m personally very happy to announce that we have formed a partnership with PayPal, the most widely accepted checkout service on the web. We are integrating PayPal into Yahoo! Search, enabling people to checkout faster and with greater security when they make online purchases. Beginning today, when you search for a product on Yahoo! Search you will see little blue shopping cart icons next to some of our merchant listings.

Search Engine Roundtable consider it as Yahoo!’s attempt to improve consumers shopping experience but then a copy-cut version (according to Startup Meme) of the Google Search Results with Google Checkout.

Mentioning Google Checkout, the news about the de-branding of Google’s Froogle came into my mind. It’s again a clear proof that Froogle didn’t grow much according to what Google expected, thus forced them to kill it. However, the search for products remains and is now called “Google Product Search“.

they’re talking about Google Product Search here, here, here,
