$10m Paid by Toyota to Victims
In August 2009, a California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Saylor 45 along with his his wife, their daughter and brother-in-law were killed in accident which was caused by a faulty floormat of the Toyota Lexus they lent from a Toyota dealership. The accident had led to the recall of the Lexus for floormat repair then it was followed by another recall over pedal problem.
The family of the victims and Toyota agreed an amount that Toyota should pay to the victims’ family and it was also agreed that the amount would be confidential to protect the family from annoying solicitors. But the lawyer for the Toyota dealership has revealed the amount and Toyota was disappointed that it was not kept confidential.
On Monday, Toyota agreed to pay to the US government for the fine of at least $32 million over the handling of its millions of recalls.
