Artificial Pancreas Works in Diabetic Patients

April 15, 2010
By

The artificial pancreas used by the US researchers successfully regulates the sugar of 11 diabetic patients at near-normal sugar level.

The device is the first artificial pancreas that has used both insulin and glucagon.

Its system is made up of a glucose monitor, two pumps and a laptop. The glucose monitor monitors the sugar level of the patient. If the sugar level goes high, the computer program in the laptop will send a signal to the pumps to pump off insulin into the patients body system. But if the sugar level goes down, the device will pump off glugacon to increase the sugar level.
