Chelation Drugs, Dangerous and Illegal
The Food and Drug Adminstration notified companies that the drugs they are selling used for the procedure called as “Chelation” are illegal as announced Thursday the crackdown.
These companies promote the products as a treat to diseases such as autism, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s by cleansing or removing toxic metals from the body. The drugs according to authorities can caused kidney failure and dehydration that farther result to death.
The agency was alarmed upon learning that the chelation drugs are widely promoted in the internet and it can be easily acquired over the counter without prescription. The agency is already aware of one reported death case of an autistic patient who underwent the procedure.
However, FDA said that one chelation drug has been approved by the agency under prescription and should be done by a trained medical professional due to its risk in complications.
