During yesterday’s Search Engine Strategies NYC, senior vice president of the Online Audience Group for Microsoft Bing, Yusuf Mehdi,  said that the reason why Microsoft lags far behind Google is because Microsoft ignored the “long-tail” keywords.

He said that Microsoft is focusing only on the head because the’re popular. Besides, focusing on heads means that they’ll be returning queries for the popular sites.

Thus, Microsoft failed to retrieve relevant results for a long line of less popular queries which is successfully done by its competitor, Google.
