Syphilis Experiment in Guatemala Scandal

In 1946 to 1948, American doctors intentionally infected 700 Guatemalans who are prison inmates, mental patients and soldiers with syphilis (venereal disease) as part of their experiment to test the effectiveness of the penicillin against such kind of disease.

The subject Guatemalans did not give direct consent to join the studies. It’s the authorities however who signed them in.
