41 Countries Banned for OFW Deployment

The Philippine government through the DFA has ordered a ban on deploying OFW to 41 countries. Those countries included on the ban list have no existing labor laws and social laws or even resolutions or declarations or any agreement that would protect the right of workers especially migrant workers. The banning of those countries for the deployment of OFWs is based on Republic Act 10022 or the amended Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995.

On the other hand, there are 125 countries that are certified by the DFA compliant to the said law.

On Saturday goons came into the camps of the PALEA members currently on strike to sent them out of the camp. During the trouble, one bystander died and eight PALEA members were injured.

Now, the question is: Who hired the goons? According to the PALEA members, the PAL management hired them. And their claim is backed by the confession of one of the goons whom the PALEA members have cornered and brought to the authorities. On the other hand, the PAL management said in a statement that they did not hired those goons and they would never resort to any extra-legal ways to get rid of the striking workers.

Which camp tell the truth? Well… We couldn’t tell about it because both camp can hire goons to do just what the goons did. The PALEA members can do it to show as if the PAL Management hired those goons to let the out of the strike.

Black Saturday, Special Non-Working Holiday

President Noy Aquino signed Proclamation No. 150 declaring Black Saturday which is on April 23, 2011 a Special Holiday. So private and government offices are closed on that day. If the worker still works, he is entitled of the holiday rate.

Black Saturday is actually not included on the executive order declaring regular holidays. one of the holidays that former President Gloya Arroyo declared holidays but are not included on P-Noy’s declaration is Iglesia Ni Cristo day.

With this, people can maximize their time in partaking the celebration of the Holy Week by the Roman Catholic Church and other Protestant Churches.

President Cory Aquino, Died at 76

Our former president Cory Aquino has rested already from its cancer illness at 3:18AM this Saturday at the age of 76.

Mrs Aquino who was the first lady president of the Philippines was suffering from colon cancer since March 2008. She underwent chemotherapy but seems the medication failed because there were reports that the cancer had spread already into the other parts of her body.

Several days ago, people showed their support by offering prayers for the recovery of the former president. However, according to Rev Suarez, Mrs Aquino requested to pray not for her recovery but for her rest.

The current president, GMA, has declared a 10-day national mourning period for the former president. Then on military camps all over the Philippines flown the flag a half-mast today to honor the resting president.

I read a news through the Inquirer.net that the Comelec invites Bloggers to cover the 2010 election. Here’s part of the news.

the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will invite bloggers to cover the 2010 elections, from the preparations up to the proclamation of winners, a spokesman for the poll body said Thursday.

The Comelec is formulating a “framework of cooperation” with the blogging community to cover key points in the elections such as voter education and field testing of counting machines, the commision’s spokesman, James Jimenez said.

2010 Election Voters’ Registration Deadline – October 31, COMELEC

For those who are wondering when will be the deadline of the voters’ registration for the 2010 Presidential Election, it will be on October 31, 2009. This is according to the Comelec Resolution 8585, promulgated on February 12, 2009.

Actually, the original deadline of the registration was December 2009. But through that said resolution, the date was moved back to October 31, 2009. But the Comelec offices throughout the country will be opened from Monday to Sunday.

So, if you don’t have time to visit the Comelec offices on weekdays, then why not do it in Saturdays and Sundays.

July 27, Iglesia Ni Cristo Day, Special Working Holiday

People are confused of the news because a newspaper reported that July 27 which is an Iglesia ni Cristo day, is a non-working holiday and then other reports said that it’s a working holiday.

The Malacañang clarified that the Iglesia ni Cristo day or the 27th of July is declared by the government through the law (Republic Act 9645) signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo this June 12, 2009 as a special working holiday.

In other words, workers have to work without any additional compensation.
